From the DEEP Foundation page :

This year too, we celebrated it at a few of our Henny Penny Library Centres in the true spirit with our little Champions.... We conducted various story theatre workshops in different formats - The story was Laadle Ka Dhol - a Level 3 book from our Publishing partners, Pratham Books. A wonderful story that all our children could relate to...that had a lovely, heart warming message about sharing and empathy.

Our children at the Henny Penny Library #1 loved making their own props and directing and enacting the play in a street play format - over 20 children participated in it with 3 narrators and 3 children playing the protagonist - Ladla. We had a delightful event at the colony's park where it was open to all. Many residents walking in the garden joined us and watched the performance, enjoying it immensely.

Pratham Books Champion : Cherry Agarwal and Sunit Ubhi

Session conducted on : 6th September
Number of kids : 40
Number of sessions : 1
Language the session was conducted in : English

Greetings from Sarswati Modern School. Sunit and I are Teach For India Fellow and first timers as Pratham Book Champions. I cannot express the joy that surrounded our class when they heard Takloo the salt seller. The story mechanism was such that students had begun making text to self connections and delved deeper while they inferenced that their parents have been entrepreneurs all their life just like Takloo.

The read aloud not only catered to the auditory students but amply reflected the needs of kinesthetic students. The session saw students learning different values through a think-pair-share activity.

The read aloud session made use of character flashcards and was followed by intense student interviews where students celebrated International Literacy Day or what has become 'education' day in their terms. The class held the apt attention of 40 kids who got immersed in Takloo's story.

I conducted the session on 6th of September 2014. 28 kids of grade 5 attended the session which was conducted in English. It was great fun for me and them too. They would certainly love more such stories. I have loads of them in my class library. They simply love story telling. So thanks a ton on behalf of my class for the opportunity.

Session 1 conducted on : 6th September
Number of kids : 88
Number of sessions : 1
Language the session was conducted in :

Session 2  conducted on : 7th September
Number of kids : 30
Number of sessions : 1
Language the session was conducted in :

The first session took place at Sri Satya Sai Baal Vikaas School (Noida) and the second session took place at Oxford Book Store (New Delhi) for children from ANK India NGO.

At both the sessions the response and the participation from the children was very enthusiastic. We
started with the discussion on the geographic location of Anjarle and the culture of Maharashtra. Children came up with the description and culture of their own villages and that sure was a learning
for me. Also, we discussed and enacted different animals the children had seen in their villages.

One thing which was common in both the sessions was the hearty laugh they had on hearing the name “Takloo”. Children loved the illustration of Banabai. After the story we all tried selling the salt
and/ or any other thing in their own style.

It was truly fun, pleasure and a heart touching experience.
