Pratham Books Champion : Takshila Educational Society and DPS (Patna, Pune, Ludhiana and Coimbatore)

Shradha from Takshila Educational Society helped coordinate 82 storytelling sessions this year. Here are some of the stories from Delhi Public School (Patna, Pune, Ludhiana and Coimbatore)

In its fifth edition of the 'One Day - One Story' campaign, Pratham Books was joined by 3000+ storytellers who conducted 3200+ storytelling sessions. Many, many steps towards a 'Reading India'! 

What started as a small step by Pratham Books to spread the joy of reading has become a movement. In 2012, Pratham Books initiated the One Day-One Story initiative on the occasion of International Literacy Day . We will be sharing the stories of all our volunteer storytellers (Pratham Books Champions) through our blog. View more stories from the International Literacy Day Celebrations held in 2016.

Pratham Books Champions : Azad India Foundation

Yuman Hussain from Azad India Foundation sent us the following story. AIF is working with government schools as well as with the madarasa children.

Date: 7th September 2013
Organized by: Azad India Foundation, Kishanganj, Bihar
Place: 20 Madarasas and 20 Girl Child Learning Centres


Azad India Foundation organized reading sessions all through  the day on 7th September at 40 Nonformal Centers under ProjectTalim and Project Aalima Girl Child Learning Centres.

40 teachers, 7 cluster level coordinators and 1282 children read, listened and narrated Paplu the Giant in English and Hindi.


The day was full of excitement at the centres as preparation for the D- Day had started almost a week before.

This small step of Pratham Books brought joy of reading to so many children.

This International Literacy Day, Pratham Books has taken a 1000 steps towards a 'Reading India'

What started as a small step by Pratham Books to spread the joy of reading has become a movement. Last year Pratham Books initiated the One Day-One Story initiative on the occasion of International Literacy Day and we conducted over 250 storytelling sessions. This year we are delighted that over a 1000 sessions are happening across the length and breadth of the country.We will be sharing the stories of all our champions through our blog.

Pratham Books Champion : Azad India Foundation

For International Literacy Day (8th September), we had a dream - we wished that 100 people would volunteer to conduct storytelling sessions across the country. We ended up finding more than 250 champions to conduct storytelling sessions across the country. We will be sharing the stories of all our champions through our blog.

Storytelling session conducted on 8th September, 2012

On the occasion of International Literacy Day Azad India Foundation organized Reading Champions at UMS( Government School) Purenderpur where more than 60 students participated in continuous reading sessions from the classes 3 to 6.The sessions were held simultaneously at Madarasas ( Suhagi Madarasa) and NFE Centre ( Kakramari).About 100 children were present at Madarasa and NFE centre.The place was district Kishanganj,Block- Pothia ,State Bihar.This event was mentioned in the report submitted to District Education Officer ,Kishanganj who appreciated as it was the first time such an event was organized in the government school.We couldnt get the banner and books on time so our teachers took out the print outs of the book and made banner on the chart paper.

The event was organized by Mr Nazir Alam, Project Coordinator- Project Talim supported by Sir JRD Tata Trust.
