Pratham Books Champion : Azad India Foundation

For International Literacy Day (8th September), we had a dream - we wished that 100 people would volunteer to conduct storytelling sessions across the country. We ended up finding more than 250 champions to conduct storytelling sessions across the country. We will be sharing the stories of all our champions through our blog.

Yuman Hussain from Azad India Foundation sent us the following story. AIF is working with government schools as well as with the madarasa children.

Storytelling session conducted on 8th September, 2012

On the occasion of International Literacy Day Azad India Foundation organized Reading Champions at UMS( Government School) Purenderpur where more than 60 students participated in continuous reading sessions from the classes 3 to 6.The sessions were held simultaneously at Madarasas ( Suhagi Madarasa) and NFE Centre ( Kakramari).About 100 children were present at Madarasa and NFE centre. The place was district Kishanganj,Block- Pothia ,State Bihar. This event was mentioned in the report submitted to District Education Officer ,Kishanganj who appreciated as it was the first time such an event was organized in the government school. We couldnt get the banner and books on time so our teachers took out the print outs of the book and made banner on the chart paper.

The event was organized by Mr Nazir Alam, Project Coordinator- Project Talim supported by Sir JRD Tata Trust.

Thank you Azad India Foundation for spreading the joy of reading!
