Pratham Books Champion : Promita Bhowmick

For International Literacy Day (8th September), we had a dream - we wished that 100 people would volunteer to conduct storytelling sessions across the country. We ended up finding more than 250 champions to conduct storytelling sessions across the country. We will be sharing the stories of all our champions through our blog.

Promita Bhowmick sent us this story.
I am a teacher by profession and I love singing rhymes with children and of course story telling sessions. The session on 8th September was my first event of story telling. Thoroughly enjoyed it. And I am quite sure that children also enjoyed as much as I did. We took 2 stories with them and related activities as well. The first activity was rangoli making which was related to the story "Susheela's Kolams" and the second one was vegetable printing which was related to the story "Vegetables come to school". Children were very happy and excited with the stories and the activities. They became so enthusiastic that they started telling stories themselves to us. At the end of the event we even gave free goodies to the children. We all really enjoyed a lot. My fellow staff, director and the centre head of Nurture International Preschool supported me in every bit and I must say that without their support the session would not have been successful. At the end would like to say that there is a sense of satisfaction in me that I managed to send across the message of how reading is important.
Thank you Promita for spreading the joy of reading!
