Pratham Books Champions : Parinita Batra, Shalu Sharma, Prakhar Misra

Parinita Batra sent us the following story about the session she conducted along with Shalu Sharma and Prakhar Misra. Parinita graduated from Hindu College in Philosophy Honours and is a 2nd year TFI Fellow. Prakhar graduated as an engineer and is a 1st year TFI Fellow. Shalu has corporate experience of 8 years in HR and is a 2nd year TFI Fellow

On the occasion of International Literacy day, Pratham Books, an NGO provided books to our school, for
conducting a read aloud session for all classes, followed by activities based on the book. Through this One-Day-One-Story Campaign, students were made aware about the importance of worldwide literacy and how language is not a barrier to share stories! The selected book was titled ‘Paplu-The Giant.’ The students liked the character 'Paplu' very much and wished to be like Paplu in their society, a very helpful and kind-hearted boy. Connecting Paplu, the Giant and how he saved the village from the dacoits was just made easy by the sheer power of storytelling and the interest in the children to listen and absorb bit by bit. Various text-based activities were conducted, such as:
• Drawing the favourite part of the story
• Making predictions about what might happen next as well as drawing inferences
• Character- Sketch
• Dramatization of the whole story once narrated by the teacher.
• Student-sharing in a big group, about the different morals learnt

Everyone participated actively for the successful execution of this reading-program, which was a joyous experience. This was a powerful method by which all the kids could be introduced to the wonderful world of reading, filled with amazing experiences.

Thank You Pratham Books for spreading the joy of reading and Teach for India for this wonderful opportunity!!!

Thank you Parinita, Shalu and Prakhar for spreading the joy of reading!
