Pratham Books Champion : Sandhya Taksale

Sandhya Taksale, editor (Pratham Books) writes about the session she conducted in Pune.

Session conducted on : 6th September
Number of kids : 100+
Number of sessions : 1
Language the session was conducted in : Marathi

In Pune, 'One day - One story' event was celebrated in 'Kusumben Motichand Mahila Sewagram'. The event was organised with the help of an NGO- 'Akshar Sarita' which runs a library for the girls. All these girls attend school which is adjacent to this home.

More than 100 girls (from std 1 to std 7) participated in this event. There was quite a lot of excitement around this storytelling session.

The girls liked the name Takloo. They knew the Konkan region and shared details about the trees and fruits from that area. The picture of Takloo's mother when she spreads her hands made them laugh . I carried some cotton,  mango leaves, a small earthen pot of salt with me to add some more visual elements. The session was interactive and girls were eager to talk.

They liked the idea of coming up with their own Takloo story and promised that they will write it but in return I should visit again and tell them a new story :)

I will always cherish those curious and smiling faces.

Thank you Sandhya for spreading the joy of reading!

In its third edition of the 'One Day - One Story' campaign, Pratham Books was joined by 1300+ storytellers who conducted 1500+ storytelling sessions. More than a 1000 steps towards a 'Reading India'!

What started as a small step by Pratham Books to spread the joy of reading has become a movement. In 2012, Pratham Books initiated the One Day-One Story initiative on the occasion of International Literacy Day . We will be sharing the stories of all our volunteer storytellers (Pratham Books Champions) through our blog.
