Pratham Books Champion : Neela Gupta and Priti Patil

Pratham Books Champion Priti Patil and I are fortunate enough to have a chance to work with a group of teachers who are employed by the government to educate the children of labourers or those who are begging/doing small knick knack work on chai laari etc.

These teachers' job is to walk around the area, identify such children and their families and motivate them to come to a nearby municipal school where a separate class room is allotted to them. 

I guess you can imagine the challenges these teachers face. they have to constantly strive to find creative ways to keep children motivated and interested. On 3rd January, 2015 we had a workshop with some of these teachers where we were demonstrating/ brainstorming new ways to teach subjects annd topics.

We had taken lots of books with us, most of them were Pratham books. We chose the book titled 'Ek Bhaari Musibat' by Herminder Ohri in Gujarati language. 

We all played the game of being children by shaking off all that we were once again becoming children.

While I told the story to these children, Priti enacted and our children interrupted, asked questions, shared their stories and thoughts, and answered our questions. It was fun and learning. We learnt how to introduce civic sense, community living, science-especially about the diversity in nature, animal habitats, and some laughter.
