The following report was sent to us by V.Jayalakshmi from Human Integrated Life and Learnings (HILLS).
What started as a small step by Pratham Books to spread the joy of reading has become a movement. Last year Pratham Books initiated the One Day-One Story initiative on the occasion of International Literacy Day and we conducted over 250 storytelling sessions. This year we are delighted that over a 1000 sessions are happening across the length and breadth of the country. We will be sharing the stories of all our champions through our blog.

We conducted the Pratham Books Champion event on 08/09/13 for a residential school children at Kallipatti village, Gobichetipalayam Taluk, Erode district. Thirty five children and three teachers attend the program. We gave them four books to the children and asked them to see the pictures in small groups. Then we took books one by one and told them the stories of following.
• Goloo
• Thullu & pullu Rabbit stories
• Pictures of shivaji fort
• One Kannada book
Children enjoyed the stories of Goloo and Rabbit stories. The Goloo stories made them to reassemble so many circles in their life. When the stories ended with no circle in our answer sheet, they shocked and realized important of education and scoring. In the rabbit stories they thrilled by two rabbits and how they chased away the wolf.
We felt it is meaningful event because most of the children are from poor family and their parents unable to take care. So they left them with residential schools which run by our government under Serva Siksha Abiyan Schemes.
We really thank Pratham Books for this opportunity due to this we reached very poor children and understood their socio-economic situation.
