Pratham Books Champion : Reader's Route

Reader's Route sent us the following story about their session. 

Session conducted on : 6th September

Language the session was conducted in : Hindi, English Kannada


Literacy day was conducted successfully on 6th Sep,2014.The session started at 4.30 with a Prayer song. Fourteen children participated with their parents.

A short talk on significance of World Literacy Day was given by senior citizen Mr.Jagannath, G.M, Retd.LRDE Officer. He advised the children that money is not a criterion to be happy in life, and to make use of the oppurtunities to learn and come up in life quoting the life of Abdul Kalam ji and Sri.Narendra Modi.


Mrs.Vijayalakshmi distributed the prize and story books to all the participants. The session ended with light snacks and a vision to learn more from the environment and ample opportunities available to us.

Activity Session included :

a) Children were asked to do “Word building game” with the Author names in a present time.
b) A topic on “Major Languages of India” was selected and read while the children had to listen attentively and solve a crossword puzzle related to the topic.
c) ‘Takloo’ story was read by the children in 3 languages Hindi, English and Kannada for the different age groups, followed by a quiz to test their grasping ability.
d) For the less privileged kids, Drawing skills activity was conducted and story books distributed to encourage their reading habits. They were happy and told they will look forward for more such sessions.

What started as a small step by Pratham Books to spread the joy of reading has become a movement. In 2012, Pratham Books initiated the One Day-One Story initiative on the occasion of International Literacy Day . We will be sharing the stories of all our volunteer storytellers (Pratham Books Champions) through our blog.
