Pratham Books Champion : Storytree

Storytree celebrated International Literacy Day at Sophia School, Old Airport Road, Bangalore with Takloo. This story was sent by Nandini Basu.

Session conducted on : 6th September
Number of kids : 124
Number of sessions : 1
Language the session was conducted in : English

The primary students of Sophia School gathered on the terrace of the school building to hear the story about a smart little boy. They were eager to know who was this boy and what was his name. Just then, popped out Takloo from my bag. A Takloo made out of egg shell.

As I told them about the beautiful trees in Takloo's village, several of them described the different kinds of trees that they had seen in their villages. We also looked around for the trees visible from the terrace and tried naming a few. There were squirrels sprinting from one tree to another but difficult to capture in lens. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the illustrations.

I stopped telling the story when Takloo's family has a big bagful of salt and don't know what to do. I asked the kids if they had any solution. They came up with good ideas but Takloo emerged the smartest.

When I finished telling the story, one child even said that next time he visited his village, he would read out the Takloo story to the elders sitting under the tamarind tree. Another child said, he would teach the non-school going children in his area to read and write. That's the power of a book!

Thank you, Pratham Books, for this initiative.
